What to Wear for Diwali 2026 — From the Puja to the Party

Diwali 2026 lands on 8 November, with Dhanteras opening the week on the 6th — which means a full run of occasions rather than a single evening. There’s the Lakshmi puja at home, the lunches and card nights, the big Diwali party, and the family gathering the morning after. The trick is to dress for the light — Diwali is lit by diyas, candles and fairy lights, and the right fabric turns all of that into a glow.

Dress for the light: fabrics that catch the diya

This is the one festival where a little shimmer is not too much. The fabrics and crafts that come alive under warm, low light are:

• Sequin and zari — they pick up every flame in the room and read as festive without effort.
